Korda Networks selects Pioneer Consulting for new Iceland–Scotland submarine cable

Korda Networks has appointed Pioneer Consulting as lead adviser for AUDUR, its planned submarine cable connecting Iceland and Scotland. The cable is targeted to enter service around the end of 2029 or early 2030.

Pioneer Consulting will support Korda Networks in developing the overall project strategy and oversee tendering, bid evaluation, and supplier selection for key elements of the project, including the marine survey, cable manufacture and installation.Pioneer Consulting will also provide project management services throughout construction and installation.

Pioneer Consulting has provided strategic advice and specialist engineering services for submarine cable projects worldwide since 1998. As the submarine cable industry experiences record growth and increasing pressure on supplier capacity, this expertise will help Korda Networks navigate procurement options, manage delivery risks, and maintain focus on the project’s schedule.AUDUR will land in Meðalland, south of Kirkjubæjarklaustur on Iceland’s south coast, and in Irvine Bay on the Firth of Clyde, west of Glasgow. Korda Networks will also develop a new service delivery site in Glasgow, offering multiple onward connectivity options to London, the Nordic region, continental Europe and Ireland.

The marine survey is planned for summer 2027. Tendering is currently underway for terrestrial fibre routes connecting the Icelandic landing site to service delivery sites, with construction expected to begin in summer 2027.

AUDUR will strengthen Iceland’s international connectivity and provide an additional route for data traffic between Iceland and Europe.
